This month begins a new adventure for me in blogging. I have been invited to be part of the Schoolhouse Review Crew for 2013. I am very excited about this opportunity and this post is my first review as part of the Crew. You’ll be seeing reviews from me about once a month.
For the past two weeks, I have been exploring a website called www.SchoolhouseTeachers.com. It is part of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, which I have subscribed to for a few years. (It is now free and digital.) The magazine is always full of great articles and homeschool encouragement, but the Schoolhouse Teachers.com site is a vast collection of lessons and resources to make homeschooling easier and more enjoyable.
There are over 25 different subjects available. These subjects area presented in a variety of ways: video, audio, downloadable, printable lessons plans, unit studies, ebooks, etc. Many of the classes are taught by experts in their field!
My daughter and I had fun listening to the French lessons. She is has often asked to learn French, so she willingly sat down and began working through lessons. She enjoyed them and is looking forward to more. One of the other areas we spent some time doing lessons was with the guitar. We had fun learning two basic chords (G and D) in the beginning guitar from Jerry Jennings. I might even be able to strum a song or two if I sit in on enough lessons.
The curriculum choices on SchoolhouseTeachers.com are arranged in three academic levels: Elementary, Middle School and High School. There are also a sections just for teachers, families, extras, a monthly reading list, and a ton of other resources. In case you are wondering how you would keep everything organized, they have thought of that too. Which brings me to two of my favorite features of a SchoolhouseTeachers.com membership.
On the far right of the SchoolhouseTeachers.com site there are some blue text links. One of those links says “your daily checklist.” This is a downloadable sheet that lists all the subjects they offer during the current month and a calendar to check off each day you complete. There is even a blank one you can customize to meet the specific needs of your family so whether you are doing the full curriculum or filling in the gaps, there is an easy way to keep track of it – and who doesn’t like checking things off a list?
The other thing I love: The Schoolhouse Planners! These are downloadable, print what you want planners. They come in five different styles: The Teacher Planner, Primary, Intermediate, and High School Planners, and even a Special Needs Planner. These planners are full of resources, calendars, and encouragement.
A SchoolhouseTeachers.com membership is normally $5.95/month. However, right now they are running a special promotion: This special pricing includes a 1-year membership for only $49 (regular price – $64.26). In addition to the membership, you also will receive the 2013 Annual Print Book and your choice of tote bag, ABSOLUTELY FREE.
Disclosure: As part of the Schoolhouse Review Crew, I received a membership to Schoolhouse Teachers in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not compensated in any other way. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with FTC Regulations.
